Staff shifts and the weekly duty roster
BOC's duty roster is the Duty tab in HR, where you give each team member their daily hours from a start date and see the whole branch's week at a glance, on the web or in the BOC app. Morning, Day, and Evening templates fill in the hours in one tap, and your own start and end times cover everything else, including night shifts that run past midnight. The same shifts tell BOC who is on duty today, who arrived late, who left early, who worked overtime, and who can receive a spot check.
What it does
Open HR and choose Duty. Search for an employee, tap a Shift template (Morning 08:00 to 16:00, Day 09:00 to 17:00, or Evening 14:00 to 22:00) or type your own Starts and Ends times in 24-hour format, choose the Start date, and press Save shift. The day buttons under Working days move the start date to a later day this week in one tap. The list covers everyone in the branch you are working in, and BOC confirms with Shift saved.
Below the form, This week shows Monday to Sunday for every person, with On shift and the hours on each day from the shift's start date, and No shift before it. In effect today lists each person's current hours and the date those hours started, so you see at a glance who works from 08:00 to 20:00 and since when. Upcoming shifts appear on the same cards.
A shift saved for today or a later date takes over from that day, and the previous shift closes the day before. Earlier days keep the hours already in effect, so last month's lateness is still measured against last month's shift. Each person has one shift per start date, and a saved shift sets hours only: attendance comes from the punches and pay from the pay rules. A shift can also end earlier than it starts, such as 22:00 to 06:00: BOC treats it as one night shift across midnight for on-duty status, lateness, early leave, and overtime.
How the roster drives the rest of HR
HR home reads the roster. On duty today counts the people with a shift in effect, and Late arrivals counts the day's lateness lines, built from the shifts you saved and the punches your staff make on their phones. The Spot checks tab uses the same plan to show each person as On duty, Off duty, or On leave before you send a check, and staff can share their location for the Locations map during their shift hours.
Pay rules measure lateness, early leave, and overtime against the shift, for the whole branch or for one employee. Lateness and early leave use Linear or Tiers, with grace minutes and a cap. With 10 grace minutes and a rate of 2.00 per minute, a person who clocks in 25 minutes after the start of the shift gives (25 - 10) × 2.00 = 30.00. Overtime pays the minutes after the end of the shift at an hourly rate. BOC prices a day once it has both the clock-in and the clock-out, and each amount goes to the payroll ledger as proposed, or straight to approved when the deduction rule has Auto-approve deductions switched on.
Approved requests fit into the same picture. On a day with an approved Late arrival or Early leave request, BOC marks that line as waived. Approved leave sets the day's lateness and overtime to zero, shows the person as On leave on the spot-check list, and keeps new bookings away from them on the calendar for those dates.
Who edits the roster and what each employee sees
The roster follows the role. People whose role includes Manage HR Requests open Duty on the web and in the BOC app and save shifts, and Delete HR records adds Delete shift next to an upcoming shift before it begins. The Owner role has both. Each employee's HR file also has a Shifts section with their shift history, for managers with View Attendance.
Each employee finds their own hours in My HR, under Schedule: Starts, Ends, and the date the shift began. In the BOC app the same hours open from Shift and leave balance, and the employee clocks in and out from the same page, so BOC compares each punch with this shift.
Managers also plan from the phone. HR in the BOC app has Duty, with each person's hours in effect today, the Morning, Day, and Evening chips, weekday chips that set the start date, and Save shift.
How it works in BOC
- Open Duty. In HR, open the Duty tab for the branch you are working in, on the web or in the BOC app.
- Pick the employee. Type part of the name in Search and choose the person from the list.
- Set the hours. Tap Morning, Day, or Evening, or type your own Starts and Ends times, including a night shift such as 22:00 to 06:00.
- Choose the start date. Pick today or a later date, or tap a day under Working days, then press Save shift.
- Check the week. Read This week and In effect today to confirm who works when, then watch On duty today and Late arrivals on HR home.
- Adjust an upcoming change. Remove an upcoming shift with Delete shift, or save a new one with a later start date.
Who it is for

Questions
Does BOC have a staff shift scheduling tool?
Yes. The Duty tab in HR gives each team member their hours from a start date, with Morning, Day, and Evening templates or your own times. It shows the branch's week from Monday to Sunday and the hours in effect today, on the web and in the BOC app.
Can I change someone's hours from next week?
Yes. Save a new shift with a later start date. The current hours stay in effect until the day before, and the new hours take over from the start date. Until then, Delete shift removes the upcoming change.
Can a shift run past midnight?
Yes. Enter an end time earlier than the start, such as 22:00 to 06:00. BOC treats it as one night shift for on-duty status, lateness, early leave, and overtime.
What happens to past days when I change a shift?
They keep the hours that were in effect. A new shift starts today or later, so past lateness and overtime stay tied to the shift the person actually had.
Where do employees see their shift?
In My HR, under Schedule, with the start time, the end time, and the date the shift began. In the BOC app it opens from Shift and leave balance, next to Clock in and Clock out.
How does BOC know who arrived late?
It compares each person's clock-in with the start of their shift. Late arrivals are counted on HR home, and a lateness pay rule turns the minutes into an amount with grace minutes and a cap.
Who can edit the roster?
People whose role includes Manage HR Requests, on the web and in the BOC app. Removing an upcoming shift before it begins also needs Delete HR records, and the Owner role has both.
